about mrs. kepner...
I have a confession to make. In a moment of sheer haphazardness, with little thought to the outcome, I made a decision that altered the course of my life. I didn't consult my friends, call my mother, or even spend more than about 10 seconds pondering. I just jumped in the cool water and started swimming. After all, I had to decide before I got to the front of the line. Even though there were supposedly many choices, in my world, I felt limited to a few. So, when the adviser asked me what major I was declaring, I blurted out, "Education." It must have been kind of loud, too, because it felt like the crowd noise died down. Had they heard me? Is this a shocking decision? Does no one get a graduate degree in English Education? Why are these people staring at me? Turns out that they weren't staring at me, nor did they care that I had just flipped the coin and chosen education as my career. They were enamored with Charlie Ward, quarterback of the FSU football team, who was in line behind me. So here I am, quite a number of years later, based on a rash decision that I made in my youth. You know how "they" say that decisions made in haste are often regretted? Not so, for me. Although this career has its share of challenges, it is fulfilling beyond measure. I am so grateful for another year to spend with a new group of students. I am sure this year will bring with it the usual hurdles, challenges, and road blocks, but I am looking forward to conquering them with you. I am anticipating the very best from each of you and can't wait to get started. Welcome to class!
